Mary: as the New Ark of the Covenant -
Rev. 11:19 to next v. 12:1,
“ark of his covenant”
“woman clothed with the sun”.
Remember when Scripture was originally written there were no chapter
So, originally the “vision” St. John had in the Book of Revelation would have read the end
of chapter 11 - going right into 12 as just one verse following the other.
It would have went like this: “Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of
his covenant was seen within his temple; and there were flashes of lightning, loud noises
peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail. And a great portent appeared in
heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a
crown of twelve
Prof. Scott Hahn, tape on Revelation,
“John sees the end of the old temple on earth destroyed with an earthquake and then God’
s new temple in Heaven. The common belief of the rabbi’s of Jesus’ day was that there
were two Jerusalems.
The one on earth patterned after the one in Heaven!

Then God’s temple in Heaven was opened... and within the temple was seen the “Ark of
the Covenant”! WOW! The “Ark” had not been seen for five centuries!
In [2 Mac 3 Jeremiah hid the Ark. According to some legends it was taken by God!
It was the “Ark” that made the temple in Jerusalem holy! The “Ark” conntained the
“tablets of stone” the decalogue, the manna and the rod of Aaron (that blossomed). Aaron
signified the priesthood. The Ark was made of acachia wood covered with gold, with
cerubim on top and the Mercy Seat”.
When the second temple was built they did not have the “Ark”! No “Shechinah
a Chaldee word meaning resting-place, not found in Scripture, but used by the later Jews
to designate the visible symbol of God's presence in the tabernacle, and afterwards in
Solomon's temple. When the Lord led Israel out of Egypt, he went before them "in a pillar
of a cloud." This was the symbol of his presence with his people. For references made to it
during the wilderness wanderings, see Exo_14:20  Exo_40:34-38    Lev_9:23-24   ;
Num_14:10   ; Num_16:19   , Num_16:42.

It is probable that after the entrance into Canaan this glory - cloud settled in the
tabernacle upon the ark of the covenant in the most holy place. We have, however, no
special reference to it till the consecration of the temple by Solomon, when it filled the
whole house with
its glory, so that the priests could not stand to minister ( 1Ki_8:10-13 ; 2Ch_5:13-14
2Ch_7:1-3   ). Probably it remained in the first temple in the holy of holies as the symbol of
Jehovah's presence so long as that temple stood. It afterwards disappeared. (See CLOUD
  Cloud”! No Shechinah Glory”!
There was tremendous thunder !!! And then. . . The “Woman clothed with the sun”!
St. John is describing what he is seeing!
  What made the “Ark” holy?
{Manna, the rod of Aaron that blossomed, The 10 commandments}

There are ten similarities altogether; I have given you 8:

1.   David Leaps before the “Ark” [2 Sam 6:16)
John Leaps before Mary [Luke 1:44]
2.   David is afraid, “Who am I...” [2 Sam 6:9)
Elizabeth is afraid... “Who am I...” [Luke 1:43]
3.   Ark three months [2 Sam 6:11]
Mary three months [Luke 1:56]
4.   Ark contains old Law [Deut. 10:2]
Mary carries new Law
5.   Ark contains Manna
Mary carries “Bread of Life”
6.   Ark contains “Rod of Aaron” signifying old Priesthood
Mary carries Jesus signifying new Priesthood
7.   “David arose and went...” [2 Sam 6:2]
“Mary arose and went...” [Luke 1:39)
8.   The “Ark” was in “hill” country at the “house of Abinadab” [2 Sam 6:3]
Mary went to Elizabeth, who lived in the “hill country”. [Luke 1:39]
